The Philadelphia 76ers are in a tough spot because of James Harden, and that situation could escalate quite quickly.

Harden is desperately looking to force his way out of the team, blaming GM Daryl Morey for not being able to get a big contract.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN fears that situation could have a domino effect on Joel Embiid, the franchise’s centerpiece.

That could be one of the main reasons why they’re reportedly adamant not to trade Tyrese Maxey this summer, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN (via NBA Central).

Maxey has yet to get a contract extension, and reports state that the team has no intention of giving him one this summer.

Nonetheless, they still believe he’s an integral part of their future, and intend to keep him around for as long as possible.

Maxey has improved every single year he’s been in the league, and he could be in for an expanded role if Harden decides to sit out or is traded.

He’s a promising combo guard who can score from all three levels, play off the ball, or facilitate for others, and he’s far from his prime yet.

The Sixers have had a tough time getting over the hump, and this year’s team might not necessarily be better than the one that blew two chances to reach the Eastern Conference Finals last season.

That’s why they cannot afford to lose another potential star, and won’t accept any bid for their young combo guard, regardless of how much their rivals offer.
