The Tennessee Titans won’t have their usual guy calling the shots during their preseason opener vs. the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

Titans HC Mike Vrabel will watch from the sidelines while DL coach Terrell Williams takes the reins of the team.

That’s why he took some time to thank the coach for giving him this opportunity, stating that he hopes more coaches around the league do the same for some of their assistants (via Jim Wyatt).

Notably, not many Black assistants have gotten a fair chance to coach in this league, so props to Vrabel for giving one of his most experienced assistants a platform and an opportunity to showcase his skills.

It’s all about being able to uplift your coaching staff, even if that means losing some of those guys to other teams.

Vrabel didn’t need a lot of time to establish himself as one of the best and savviest coaches in the league, and he’s one of the few reasons why some still have faith in the Titans in 2023.

Despite a shaky offensive line and a subpar quarterback, the Titans still play in a somewhat winnable division, and they do have arguably the best running back in the game and a solid defense.

A lot of that has to do with Williams’ outstanding job, as he’s been in charge of the defensive line for the past four years before getting a spot as assistant head coach.

Hopefully, it won’t be long before he gets an opportunity to be in charge of a team.
