On Wednesday, the New York Mets managed to pull away with a series win over the red-hot Chicago Cubs.

Leading the way was Pete Alonso, who hit his 35th home run of the season.

In fact, with that home run, Alonso became the first player in Mets history to have hit 35 or more home runs in at least four separate seasons.

However, Alonso was not aware of this, and actually didn’t find out until he was doing his postgame interview with MLB Network insider Jon Morosi.

On Twitter, MLB Network posted a snippet of the interview, featuring the moment when Alonso learned the truth about his home run.

Alonso first spoke about the character in the Mets clubhouse after the team had taken its series from the Cubs, who came into the series as one of the hottest teams in all of baseball.

The veteran first baseman and slugger stated that regardless of who is in the clubhouse and on the roster, he and his teammates will always battle and try to win.

Interestingly enough, there was a long replay review before Alonso took his at-bat against Cubs right-hander and ground-ball machine Kyle Hendricks.

But Alonso managed to go deep against the Cubs right-hander.

Morosi asked Alonso what it meant to him to be the only player in Mets history with 35 or more home runs in four separate seasons.

Alonso said that it was special to him to be able to accomplish that and stand alone in Mets history, even if he didn’t know about it at first.
