Bernie Moreno and Kari Lake Rally Ohio Republicans to Vote in Support of Issue 1

On Monday, Republican businessman and candidate for U.S. Senate Bernie Moreno and Arizona Republican politician and former candidate for Arizona Governor Kari Lake rallied Republicans to vote in support of Ohio State Issue 1 on August 8th.

Moreno and Lake attended a county Republican rally in Cleveland in support of Ohio State Issue 1 to raise the threshold to amend the state constitution. They spoke to hundreds of voters at the Get Out the Vote Rise and Shine Rally at the Strongsville GOP in Parma.

According to Moreno, Ohio has a lot at stake at the August 8th election and it’s critical to overwhelm the ballot box in support of Issue 1.

“What’s at stake? The extreme left has an imagination that none of us could ever contemplate. Because if we were talking about men playing women’s sports or mutilating small children five years ago it would have been crazy. So we don’t have any idea what they have in mind for five years from now. So what’s important today is really all of this. You know you’re going to vote yes on Issue One. We have to overwhelm the ballot box tomorrow,” Moreno said.

According to Lake, Ohio State Issue 1 is critical to protect the state constitution from special interest groups. She noted that the same thing is happening in Arizona where special interest groups want to force an issue on the state and change the state constitution forever.

“Issue 1 is important. These outside groups are doing the same thing in Arizona. They come in, billionaires from California, and they decide on some pet project that they want to force on the people. They run a bunch of slick ads and then they change our constitution forever. And sometimes we need to see it coming. Now thankfully we’re rising up to it. And here in Ohio, they’ve got issue one and I think it’s really critical that we get out and vote. Election integrity in my opinion is the number one issue of our time,” Lake said.

Michael Gonidakis President of Ohio Right to Life said that the event was “great.”

Ohio GOP Chairman Alex Triantafiou thanked Lake for coming to Ohio to “fire up voters” for a yes on Issue 1.

Issue 1, if approved by voters, would mandate a 60 percent approval percentage for any future constitutional amendments, call for signatures from all 88 counties, and do away with the opportunity to “cure” petitions by collecting additional signatures if necessary.

Republicans say that the state Constitution is a sacred document that special interest groups should be able to amend so easily.

The Issue has garnered support from numerous members of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate as well as Ohio Auditor Keith Faber, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose.

Five major Ohio businesses, the Associated Builders and Contractors of Ohio, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, the Ohio National Federation of Independent Businesses, the Ohio Restaurant Association, and the Ohio Hotel and Lodging Association have endorsed Issue 1 saying that Ohio should safeguard the state constitution and that they agree with State Issue 1‘s requirement that initiative petitions gather signatures from at least 5 percent of electors from all of the state‘s 88 counties.

Ohio State Issue 1 comes at a time when pro-abortion activists are working to pass a proposed constitutional amendment in November that would legalize abortion throughout the state.

A second proposed amendment that would eventually raise the state’s minimum wage will likely appear on a 2024 ballot.

Voters will decide whether to approve State Issue 1 during a statewide special election on August 8th.
