When people think of the San Diego Padres, the first player that comes to mind is usually Tony Gwynn.

That is because Gwynn was one of the most well-rounded hitters in the history of baseball and played his entire career with the Padres.

The Hall-of-Famer was a 15-time All-Star, a seven-time Silver Slugger, an eight-time batting champion, and a five-time Gold Glover.

But this day, August 6, is a special one in the history of Padres baseball.

On this date in 1993, Gwynn joined the 2,000 hit club.

Six years later on the same day, he picked up his 3,000th career hit.

On Twitter, the Padres celebrated this historic date by posting a video of the moments Gwynn joined the 2,000 and 3,000 hit clubs.

After his 2,000th hit, Gwynn pointed to his wife and kids in the stands after having accomplished this historic feat on his mother’s 58th birthday.

Gwynn’s 3,000th hit came on the road, with the moment taking place in Montreal as the Padres squared off against the Montreal Expos.

This time, his mother was in attendance and got to see her son accomplish this historic feat.

Gwynn’s teammates rushed onto the field to congratulate the slugger on his accomplishment.

However, they weren’t alone.

Gwynn’s mom also came out onto the field and gave her son a massive hug as she basked in the joyous moment of him reaching the 3,000-hit club.

These hits came on the same day, six years apart, and both meant a little something special for Gwynn and his mother.
