Perhaps one of the most frustrating and disappointing aspects of the 2023 St. Louis Cardinals season is the fact that team legend and two-time World Series champion Adam Wainwright has endured more than his fair share of struggles.

The 41-year-old has already been on the injured list twice and is still searching for 200 wins.

He is stuck on 198, and the clock is ticking for him to get the necessary two wins to reach the historic mark.

On Friday night, he allowed seven runs over three innings against the Colorado Rockies as the Cardinals fell 9-4.

After the game, the three-time All-Star gave a brutally honest assessment of his performance and made a definitive statement.

Wainwright told the media that he was tired of giving interviews with “the same old sad face,” referring to several of his difficult outings this season.

He also stated that he believed his mechanics are much better now than they were at the start of the season.

Throughout his postgame interview, the 41-year-old bemoaned the fact that he was unable to execute with two outs in Friday’s game against the Rockies.

However, he stated that he has made a career out of executing with two outs and expressed confidence that he would be able to get things going in the right direction again.

In his prior outing, he allowed four runs, but still pitched six innings against the Chicago Cubs.

With his latest outing, his ERA ballooned to 7.81 on the season.

He is also now 3-6 in his 14 starts.
