On Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays made a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals to acquire shortstop Paul DeJong.

Bo Bichette was injured in Monday night’s game and was subsequently placed on the injured list.

And so, a spot opened up for DeJong.

With the Blue Jays in buy mode, DeJong had a fit in Toronto.

On Wednesday, the veteran shortstop got a chance to make his Blue Jays debut.

Before the game, however, he received a nice welcome from one of the stars on the roster, that being first baseman and slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

On Twitter, the Blue Jays posted a video of Guerrero giving DeJong a hug as he welcomed him to the team.

DeJong had played his entire career with the Cardinals, reaching the big leagues in 2017.

But with the Cardinals out of contention and selling at the deadline, the time came to move DeJong.

Toronto took a flyer on him, and he’ll now play an important role with the Blue Jays with Bichette out.

But there’s no better way to be welcomed to the club than to receive a hug from one of the game’s best and brightest stars.

Guerrero is one of the longest tenured players on the Blue Jays roster and is the centerpiece of the team.

Now, DeJong is officially a part of the organization.

He made his Blue Jays debut on Wednesday night as they took on the Baltimore Orioles, who recently picked up his former Cardinals teammate in Jack Flaherty.
