Bears HC Gives Promising Update On Chase Claypool

The Chicago Bears made a bit of a low-risk/high-reward move when they traded for Chase Claypool.

Claypool never reached his potential with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he’s still young and has the physical tools to be a force in this league.

Unfortunately, undisclosed injuries had kept him on the shelf for most of the off-season program.

However, it seems like he’s getting up to speed with his teammates during training camp, according to HC Matt Eberlus.

The second-year coach told ESPN 1000 (via Daniel Greenberg) Claypool has had a very good training camp, developing chemistry with QB Justin Fields and excelling in run blocks.

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said on @ESPN1000 that wide receiver Chase Claypool is having a really good training camp.

Eberflus: “We like where he is at. He’s starting to gel with Justin Fields. I’m really excited about the way he run blocks.”

Truth be told, that run-block part wasn’t exactly encouraging, as most fans and analysts expect the Bears’ passing game to be much improved next season, and Claypool should be heavily involved as a pass-catcher.

But that also speaks volumes about his maturity and level of commitment, as he wasn’t exactly good in that regard during his days with the Steelers.

Claypool has the build to be one of the most physically imposing and dominant wide receivers in the game.

It seems like the only thing that could hold him back is his own self, which is why having him buy into their offensive system will be key for his success.

This could be a make-or-break campaign for the Notre Dame product.

The Bears boosted their offensive line and will have more weapons with D.J. Moore also arriving in the Windy City, so it’ll be up to Claypool to prove that he can be a star in this league.
