Against all odds, the Oklahoma City Thunder flirted with playoff contention last season, with coach Mark Daigneault finishing second for Coach of the Year.

They will now get a prime reinforcement, as former No. 2 pick Chet Holmgren is back to full strength and ready to take the league by storm after missing his entire rookie season with a foot injury.

Needless to say, injuries will always be a major concern with lanky and tall players such as him, and that was the biggest — and perhaps only — knock on him throughout the entire NBA Draft process.

With that in mind, Matt Barnes asked Holmgren about the process of adding more weight as he sat out the season, and he had quite an interesting response.

Holmgren explained that it’s not about getting ‘bad’ weight or weight just for the sake of it as much as it is about getting stronger while not losing his speed or mobility.

He claimed that he’s naturally going to add more muscle and weight as he gets older, but he doesn’t want to get to a point where he’s got broad shoulders and then limit his mobility or his knees hurt.

Notably, players like Holmgren might not want to add weight for their own sake, as it’s only going to put their health at risk.

They need to stay lean and slim to be mobile, so they should focus on getting stronger and strengthening their core, as opposed to bulking up and putting their bodies through more stress.
