The Las Vegas Raiders made a questionable move recently when the storied franchise chose to franchise tag star running back Josh Jacobs after an All-Pro season and then were unable to come to terms on a long-term deal with potentially the best back in the NFL.

The deadline for long-term contracts to be agreed upon with franchise-tagged players came and went, with Jacobs left empty-handed and wondering what the future holds for him in Las Vegas.

Although the Raiders have been saying all the right things in public, with Jacobs getting support from head coach Josh McDaniels and his teammates, Las Vegas hasn’t prioritized giving the star back any long-term security.

Even though things have seemingly gotten ugly between the Raiders and Jacobs, that might be starting to change, with the organization now reportedly open to restarting contract talks with the 25-year-old, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

Along with Jacobs, New York Giants star Saquon Barkley was unable to reach a deal with his team before the deadline for franchise-tagged players last month, which prompted him to consider sitting out the 2023 NFL season.

However, Barkley quickly changed his tune as he agreed to a one-year deal with the Giants to pay him $11 million for the upcoming season and potentially $2 million more if he comes through on the incentives in the contract.

The Raiders may be coming around on the idea of doing something similar with Jacobs because if he were to play on the franchise tag, he’d make $10 million for the 2023 season, and Las Vegas might be willing to offer more to get him to play and join the team in training camp.
