Cardinals Get Good News On Jordan Montgomery
The St. Louis Cardinals and their fans were holding their breaths on July 7 as left-hander Jordan Montgomery left his start against the Chicago White Sox with an apparent hamstring injury.
The left-hander has not pitched since then, leaving fans worried that he may end up on the injured list.
However, the Cardinals received some good news on their top starter on Friday.
It appears that Montgomery will avoid the injured list all together.
John Denton, who covers the Cardinals for MLB.com, provided this positive update on Montgomery via Twitter.
Instead of an IL stint, the Cardinals will send the 30-year-old to the mound on Tuesday as they face off against the young upstart Miami Marlins.
The #STLCards will start LHP Jordan Montgomery on Tuesday and use the bullpen for Monday’s start.

This is good news for the Cardinals.
While St. Louis is well out of postseason contention, any time on the injured list for Montgomery could have affected the potential return the Cardinals could get for him at the trade deadline, assuming he is traded to a contender.
Montgomery is on an expiring contract, as are pitchers such as Jack Flaherty, Chris Stratton, and Jordan Hicks.
The left-hander owns an ERA of 3.23 on the season and has a record of 6-7 in his 18 starts.
He also has pitched a total of 103 innings and recorded 96 strikeouts.
The Cards picked up Montgomery from the New York Yankees last year at the trade deadline in exchange for Harrison Bader.
The left-hander is the only Cardinals starter this season with an ERA below four.
Fortunately for St. Louis, he’ll get the start on Tuesday with the Marlins in town.
