After the Tom Brady era was officially over for the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick and company really struggled to find his replacement and any rhythm offensively.

However, Mac Jones did have some success during his rookie season after taking over for Cam Newton, which led to a lot of promise surrounding the franchise and their new star quarterback.

Unfortunately, Jones’ sophomore campaign was a bit of a disaster, but that may not have been all his fault, with the team refusing to bring in an offensive coordinator following the departure of Josh McDaniels, who joined the Las Vegas Raiders.

Coming into the 2023 NFL season, the Patriots have brought back a familiar face to help run the offense in Bill O’Brien, who should bring some stability to that side of the football.

Veteran tight end Hunter Henry is excited about what the Patriots can accomplish offensively this season, via ProFootballTalk.

“Me and Mac are close, we spend a good amount of time together, we’ve been throwing, getting after it, just trying to get ready to go,” Henry told Ben Volin of The Boston Globe. “I think everyone’s excited for a fresh start and a fresh season. Everybody will be fired up and be ready to go.”

The key to success offensively for the Patriots will be Jones bouncing back from his sophomore slump, and if he’s able to do that and shows flashes of his rookie form, New England could make some noise in the AFC.

New England is in an unusual position for the franchise as they are underdogs in the AFC East division, with the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins expected to finish ahead of them.

Even though there are a lot of doubts about the Patriots’ ability to get back on track, it’s hard to count out a franchise that has had so much success over the years with Belichick at the helm.
