Colin Cowherd Shares Interesting Brock Purdy Comparison
When veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went down in Week 13 last season with a season-ending foot injury, the San Francisco 49ers seemed to be in lots of trouble.
But in came Brock Purdy, the last player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he performed brilliantly the rest of the way.
He put up numbers that rivaled those of most other QBs, and he kept the 49ers’ winning streak alive until the NFC Championship Game when he tore the UCL in his throwing elbow.
Niners fans are looking forward to a full season of Purdy under center, and Colin Cowherd recently compared him to Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa.
Cowherd’s player comparison for Brock Purdy is Tua Tagovailoa…
I actually like the comp but it’s ironic that Purdy went against Tua in his first game and thoroughly outplayed him. #49ers pic.twitter.com/FCv5HxdTbD

According to Cowherd, Purdy has a similar body type, is pretty athletic, and although neither has a great throwing arm, both can “make all the throws.”
Some may want to dismiss Purdy’s success in December and January and say he was merely a beneficiary of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system, but Trey Lance wasn’t nearly as productive throwing the football during his brief stints as a starter.
This coming season, Purdy will benefit from the fact that star running back Christian McCaffrey is having a full offseason and training camp with San Francisco after they traded for him in October.
They’re one of the leading favorites to win the Super Bowl this winter, and as potent as their offense is, perhaps the biggest reason is their defense.
Star defensive end Nick Bosa, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, will be joined by defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, and they will be backed up by linebacker Fred Warner and safety Talanoa Hufanga, both of whom made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro First-Team in 2022.
