Despite possessing ample talent on both sides of the football, the Cleveland Browns are being counted out by plenty of people, as usual.

The way many see it, something will prevent them from being successful, whether it is injuries, poor play-calling, or an unfortunate stroke of bad fortune.

But Dan Orlovsky seems to be bullish on the Browns.

In fact, he feels the team could have a significant effect on what happens in the AFC this coming season — as long as their defense gets the job done.

Even though quarterback Deshaun Watson was suspended for 11 games last season due to his many sexual misconduct lawsuits, defense was the real problem for Cleveland.

The team ranked 20th in points allowed, and its big deficiency was its inability to stop the run, as it finished 25th in rushing yards allowed and 29th in rushing touchdowns given up.

In an attempt to shore up that weakness, the Browns went out and acquired defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, and their pass-rush attack should also be improved thanks to the addition of defensive end Za’Darius Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler.

Offensively, Watson will have a new weapon in speedy wide receiver Elijah Moore, to go along with four-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper and the up-and-coming Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Of course, Nick Chubb, arguably the best running back in the game, will continue to be the Browns’ biggest threat offensively.

They’re hoping that 2023 is the year they finally turn things around and start a new habit of making the playoffs.
