The Los Angeles Clippers are in dire need of a big change.

Of course, having Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the roster makes them perennial contenders, but they’ve failed to stay on the court due to countless injuries, so they need to retool and reshape that roster around them.

And according to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers have already taken a step in that direction by non-guaranteeing Eric Gordon’s $21 million contract, thus making him an unrestricted free agent.

Gordon, who’s a 37% three-point shooter from his career, arrived in Los Angeles last season after a long stint with the Houston Rockets, and he should have no shortage of suitors in free agency.

And as much as the Clippers would love to have a durable and proven scorer on their roster — especially given their injury woes — this move could save them up to $110 million in luxury tax.

Needless to say, money and spending big bucks will never be a problem for Steve Ballmer and the Clippers.

But they still need to find more efficient ways of spending their money.

The word around the league is that they’re looking to part ways with Paul George, most likely because Kahwi Leonard’s trade value must be at an all-time low right now.

George and Leonard are two of the best two-way players on Earth, but they’re close to being eligible to sign an extension, and doubling-down on their commitment to them might not be the wisest choice the Clippers front office could do right now.
