Fans React To Alek Manoah’s Ugly Minor League Start
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah has had a horrific 2023 season.
The Blue Jays sent him down to the Complex League a few weeks ago with his 6.36 ERA in 58 innings.
That is very, very different from the 2.24 ERA he posted last year.
To remedy the situation, the team decided to give him a start in the low minors.
That start came on Tuesday, and it wasn’t pretty.
To the contrary: it was an ugly display that shows Manoah is nowhere near ready to return to the rotation in the big leagues.

He allowed 11 earned runs in 2.2 innings in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.
Oof.
Fans, of course, reacted to his start with comments, memes, and everything you can imagine.

As you can probably imagine, snarky comments were aplenty.

Manoah’s drop-off has been one of the most shocking in recent memory, not only in MLB but in professional sports.
The guy was a Cy Young finalist last year in the American League.
This year, hitters of all levels are teeing off on him.
There are definitely some mechanical flaws he needs to fix before returning, but above all things, he needs his confidence back and it doesn’t seem like he has it.
It would be a mistake for the Blue Jays to recall him at this moment, but the next step of his process is not yet known.
It’s way too early to give up on Manoah, though.
