Cardinals Writer Debunks A Potential Trade Rumor
With the St. Louis Cardinals off to one of their worst starts in franchise history, some have begun to speculate over whether or not the team may look to sell off a few of their assets in order to pick up some prospects.
The Cardinals are 8.5 games back of first place in the NL Central and own a 32-45 record.
Some have even predicted that a Paul Goldschmidt trade could happen if they slip further in the standings.
However, writer Jeff Jones debunked this rumor, saying that the Cardinals are in no way looking to trade away the reigning National League MVP.
Going to tear my hair out about this for the next five weeks, I suppose, but it’s really this simple: if anyone puts their name on something that says Paul Goldschmidt is going to be traded anywhere, especially Philadelphia, you can safely ignore them in perpetuity.

This is a pretty definitive statement, but Jones made clear that the Cardinals do not have any plans to trade Goldschmidt, even if they are well out of contention by the time the deadline comes along.
The official trade deadline is August 1.
Goldschmidt hit 35 home runs last season and drove in 115 while hitting for a .317 average.
With the veteran slugger aging and set to become a free agent after the 2024 season, some have speculated that the Cardinals may look to trade him in order to get some prospects and give the organization a bit of a shakeup.
But even in the precarious position they are in, it’s clear that St. Louis is not looking to get rid of Goldschmidt.
It’s also important to note that President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak recently stated that he does not anticipate a rebuild, which ultimately puts any idea of Goldschmidt being traded to rest.
