The Chiefs Will Reportedly Re-Sign A Veteran Running Back

With the 2023 NFL Draft now in the rearview, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are doing everything within the team’s power to assemble the best roster for their title defense next season.

One of those moves the defending champions are making is to secure the running back position with a familiar face.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chiefs are expected to re-sign veteran running back Jerick McKinnon.

The #Chiefs are expected to re-sign RB Jerick McKinnon, whose re-emergence has been a revelation for KC. He gained 803 yards from scrimmage last year, the second-highest total in his career, with 10 TDs.

At this point, with two Super Bowl titles to their credit in the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs have proven to be one of the best organizations in the NFL and able to make it work with whomever they bring in or bring back.

Last season, the Chiefs traded superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in a move that no one saw coming and was questioned by the masses as it seemed like a bad move for the franchise.

Obviously, it didn’t matter that the team parted ways with one of the best wide receivers in the game, as they had JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman pick up the slack.

The same thing has happened during this NFL offseason, with the team losing Smith-Schuster and Hardman to NFL free agency, but few will doubt this team’s ability to recoup and continue to contend in the AFC.

As for McKinnon, he’ll likely share carries with Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire next season, which could make for a solid backfield for Kansas City once again if they can stay healthy and productive.
