The Dallas Cowboys have been known to build their roster through the draft.

They have done a great job of drafting and developing their players into stars.

Back in 2016 when the Cowboys had the fourth overall pick in the draft, the Cowboys selected running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Even though Elliott was a great Cowboy during his tenure, selecting a running back that high is rarely smart.

Cowboys Owner/GM Jerry Jones even believes that Elliott was picked too high.

According to Clarence Hill, Jones said “Zeke was too high for us.”

It was surprising to see Jones admit this, but he is not wrong.

The chances we see another running back picked that high are slim.

Many fans did not want to take Elliott back in 2016 because of his position.

Some Cowboys fans that do not love Jones even have to give him credit for a change of mindset.

In that 2016 draft, it seemed like the Cowboys were deciding between Elliott and Ramsey at fourth overall.

Just due to positional value, Ramsey would have made more sense.

It is still hard to argue with the production of Elliott as a Cowboy.

He was one of the best running backs in the NFL for many years, and he won two rushing titles.

If you are going to take a running back in the first round, you could do a lot worse than Elliott.
