The New York Jets landed a true gem in Sauce Gardner.

The standout CB handled himself like a veteran since day one, immediately becoming one of the few actual lockdown cornerbacks in the league.

Gardner ran away with NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and is looking forward to an even better sophomore season.

In fact, he even wants to be better than Darrelle Revis, perhaps the greatest player in that position in the history of the franchise.

Gardner made an appearance on the Kelce brothers’ podcast and talked about how Revis’ mentorship was great for him early in his career and how he was looking forward to meeting him.

But he also claimed that he doesn’t want to limit himself to just try and be like him, and he’s actually striving to be even better.

That’s the kind of mindset every organization is looking for in any of their potential franchise cornerstones.

He became the fifth player in Jets history to win NFL Rookie of the Year, starting 17 games and logging 75 total tackles, two picks, and a league-leading 20 passes defended for the fourth-best defense in the league last season.

He also led the league with a 45.9 reception percentage and just 361 yards allowed, not to mention the fact that he allowed just one touchdown reception all season long.

So, while he’s setting the bar pretty high for himself, this was a Hall-of-Famer kind of start to his career, so let’s see if he can pull it off and be better than his star predecessor.
