A recent anonymous NBA poll found that 33% of those asked said LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time, while Michael Jordan took the top spot with 58.3%.

A few years ago, the difference between them was larger which means that James is gaining more and more votes as time goes on.

NBA analyst Nick Wright believes that the gap will only narrow more in the future.

He believes that someday James will be considered the greatest of all time.

“The gap that was once Grand Canyon-sized is narrowing, quickly… LeBron’s story is somehow, 20 years in, still being written at an incredibly high level,” Wright said on First Things First.

Wright said that many people don’t like to consider an NBA player’s entire career when they are voting on a list like this.

But when you take that into consideration, James is doing things that truly no one else ever has.

He is producing more than anyone his age has.

He is sneaking up behind Jordan in polls like this one and still have several more years left in him if he remains healthy.

Whenever a poll like this comes out, analysts all over the league debate who is the best: James or Jordan?

There will never be a definitive answer of course so polls like his are the closest we get to seeing the consensus among players and professionals.

Most people have already made up their minds about the greatness of James and Jordan.

But this latest poll proves that James is gaining more fans, although he is still sitting behind Jordan according to most.

What will people be saying five years from now?
