Mets Ace Gets Ejected For Using A Foreign Substance
After winning the first game of their series on Monday but losing the second game on Tuesday, the New York Mets took the field against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the finale, hoping to secure the three-game set.
Noah Syndergaard, a former Met, took the mound against Max Scherzer.
The latter completed three solid innings.
However, before he could get another out, he got into a heated argument with the umpires.
They apparently flagged him for something on his glove and he didn’t like it.
We don’t have the details about what was discussed – probably the nature of the substance found on his glove – but after several minutes of arguing with the umpires, he was tossed.
Scherzer was clearly mad and had to be calmed down by his manager Buck Showalter.

We will find out more details after the game, but it’s definitely not a good look for Scherzer.
In several instances in the last couple of seasons, he has been shown visibly upset about foreign substance checks by umpires.
After the three scoreless innings he completed on Wednesday, his ERA is at 3.72 in 19.1 innings.
He has been excellent outside of one specific start, and is leading the Mets rotation while Justin Verlander gets himself ready to pitch after a minor shoulder issue.
Pitchers often use foreign substances on the ball to facilitate grip and, therefore, control.
However, they can also improve spin rates depending on what they use.
This is why the league is mostly against pitchers using substances.
It’s unclear if Scherzer was thrown out for using something on the ball or for yelling repeatedly at the umpires, but we will find out soon enough.
