Minnesota State Falls to #1 Ohio State, 6-2. – Minnesota State University

Columbus, Ohio— Minnesota State dropped the series opener to #1 Ohio State Friday evening, 6-2.

After OSU opened a 1-0 lead after the first period, junior forward Madison Mashuga cashed in on the Mavericks first power-play chance of the night for her seventh goal of the season at the 2:30 mark of the second to knot the game at one.

It was the Buckeyes, however, who controlled the pace in the second as they scored two goals on 21 shots to take a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

Senior forward Kelsey King took back the momentum just 57 seconds into the third period as she knocked home her team-leading 10th goal of the season to cut the Maverick deficit to 3-2.

Ohio State would go on to score three unanswered goals to pull away with the victory.

MSU goaltender Lauren Barbro stopped 42 of the 48 shots she faced.

The Mavericks (13-14-0, 7-14-0 WCHA) are back in action tomorrow to take on the Buckeyes for game two on the weekend. Puck drop is a 2:00 p.m. CST.
