Winter storm continues to put a damper on travel plans

COLUMBUS, Ohio — On Christmas Eve, time was of the essence to make it home for the holidays, but the winter storm continued to throw a wrench on everyone’s holiday plans, especially at airports.

What You Need To Know

  • The winter storm put a damper on holiday travel plans for many Ohioans
  • Brian Andrews is just one stranded at the John Glenn International Airport. His flight got canceled Friday and he has been at the airport ever since
  • Airport officials urge everyone to check their flight status before arriving at the airport

Brian Andrews is a long way from home. He lives in Washington D.C. and is trying to hop on a flight back home, but isn’t having any luck yet.

“Everything’s shut down,” said Andrews. “This is the first time I’ve experienced travel this bad.”

Andrews has been at John Glenn International Airport since Friday after his flight got canceled. He was visiting family in Canton, Ohio. Now, he’s just waiting to go home, but when?

“We did an early Christmas on the 22nd,” said Andrews. “Then out on the 23rd, but that didn’t happen.”

Andrews would rather not spend Christmas Day traveling but has no other option. He said, “I was supposed to be home by 2 p.m. Friday. Now it will be 4 p.m. tomorrow. (Christmas)”

And Andrews is not alone. Other travelers have been having difficulty since the winter storm hit — dealing with cancelations and delays.

But Andrews is still determined to get home for the holidays even if it is on Christmas Day.

“I’ve never experienced so much turmoil over the holidays, but hopefully it gets better,” Andrews said.

If you’re flying out over the holidays, you’re encouraged to check with your airline for the most up-to-date flight status.
