Reality TV special featuring local nonprofit and the “largest pop-up choir in Columbus

Will Ohio find harmony? We’ll learn tonight, during the debut of “Finding Harmony.”

The reality TV special, which focuses on the Columbus-based Harmony Project, debuts its pilot tonight at 10 p.m. on ABC.

The special highlights Harmony Project founder and creative director David Brown, as he returns to his hometown of Springfield, Ohio. The Harmony Project seeks to dissolve racial and societal boundaries by bringing different members of communities together to sing together in massive, co-operative choirs.

In early May of this year, nearly 5,000 people gathered together as a choir at Lower.com Field for a segment that will be featured on “Finding Harmony.”

The nonprofit, which was founded in 2009, has shared the stage with a number of famous musical names, including Whoopi Goldberg, Natalie Cole and Melissa Etheridge. The ABC special on the Project will continue this tradition, as it’s hosted by John Legend.

In addition to its preemie tonight, “Finding Harmony” will be available to stream on Hulu beginning Dec. 15.
