Dublin Army veteran honored by Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame

DUBLIN, Ohio — As Dublin resident Adam Carr reflects upon his accomplishments over the past few decades, several things stand out. They include his endless drive and dedication to the country and his fellow soldiers.

As a U.S. Army veteran, Carr is the youngest of the 2022 inductees into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.

“I was honored to get this award, but you know, again it was for service in Afghanistan and very grateful for the men and women that helped support our mission over there,” said Carr.

What You Need To Know

  • Adam Carr was inspired to join the U.S. Army after 9/11 and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom
  • Carr continues to advocate for the Save A Warrior organization
  • He said the Hall of Fame honor is humbling, but his mission is far from over

“Was inspired after the towers fell. I was a senior during that time frame and I thought, you know what, this is a great way to serve my country and also get my school paid for,” Carr said. “So I initially started out in the National Guard, then ultimately ended up on active duty.”

The Wayne High School graduate and Green Beret spent time in Japan, Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan and the Philippines helping train in counter-terrorism.

In 2014, after 12 years served in the Army, Carr was discharged, and back in the U.S., he began another mission helping fellow veterans, first with The Green Beret Foundation and currently with the nonprofit organization Save a Warrior

“We’ve served over 2,000 people, led them back essentially from the dead. If you’re coming to sit in a seat at our program, life’s not working out,” said Carr. “We’re proud to say that we have a 99.9% success rate in getting people out of a suicidal state and back on track in their life.”

The 39-year-old husband and father of three said he’s humbled to be inducted as one of 20 veterans in this year’s Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame class.

In recent years, Carr earned an MBA from Ohio State University.

He said family support has made his entire journey possible and even with earning Hall of Fame status, his mission is far from over.

“I wouldn’t be able to do what I’ve done without the support of my family. Knowing my wife was at home taking care of the family, taking care of the household, having to wear both hats essentially while I was deployed all those years. It’s certainly something that I’m very proud of. And in the same sense, I realize that there’s still a lot of work to be done,” said Carr. “And for me intrinsically, making an impact with other people, whether it’s on an individual or serving organizations will always kind of be a part of me and I think that’s something that will stick with me until the day that I die.”

The 2022 Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place at the Fawcett Event Center on Ohio’s State’s Campus, starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
