AP Top 25: Where is Ohio State football on Nathan Baird’s Week 14 ballot? College

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Michigan has taken Ohio State football’s claim to Big Ten supremacy and path to the playoff, and they may now have taken the Buckeyes’ benefit of the doubt in future college rankings.

Georgia had previously been my No. 1 thanks to its impressive home wins over Oregon and Tennessee. Not even the Bulldogs, though, have gone on the road and beaten a team as good as OSU as soundly as Michigan did on Saturday.

So for at least the next week, the Wolverines are my No. 1 team.

One of the separators between OSU and its rival was that Michigan had not yet received a single No. 1 vote all season. But they deserve one now.

Ohio State may need to get used to looking up at the Wolverines in the rankings for a while. They’ll return J.J. McCarthy and Donovan Edwards and other key pieces from the offense that bombed Ohio Stadium. Even with all of the defensive talent coming back for OSU, it has now become the team trying to chase Michigan down from behind and take back its label as the Big Ten standard-bearer.

As for where to put OSU this week? USC’s only loss thus far was a one-point road loss at Utah where the Utes went for a 2-point conversion to win it. Even if you consider the OSU-Michigan score slightly misleading, the margins have to matter.

Ohio State should also slot in behind USC in Tuesday’s updated College Football Playoff rankings. The bigger question there is whether the selection committee is inclined to give a two-loss Alabama more benefit of the doubt than I am.
