Marc Guehi left out of England squad for 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Guehi has impressed at club level for Palace since making the switch from Chelsea last season and was expected to be in contention to make the squad.

However, Guehi has been informed that he will not be on the plane to Qatar.

Guehi was called up to Southgate’s most-recent international squad for England’s Nations League matches against Italy and Germany, but failed to appear in any of those games.

Guehi has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Palace this season, keeping four clean sheets in that period.

The 22-year-old, who made his senior international debut during England’s 2-1 friendly victory over Switzerland in March this year, joins Fikayo Tomori in being left out of Southgate’s plans for the World Cup.

Like Guehi, Tomori was selected in September for England’s games against Italy and Germany but left out of the matchday squad for the 3-3 draw with Hansi Flick’s side.

Southgate will name his England squad for the World Cup at 2pm today, ahead of their opener against Iran on November 21.
