Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist and commentator on developments in space, will appear live as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series at 8 p.m. Wed., Nov. 17 in the Kavli Theatre, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.

The astrophysicist will bring a cosmic perspective to life on Earth and explore the many intersections between space, science, culture and life itself.

In an illustrated talk, he will explain the most recent developments at NASA, the U.S. Space Force, space tourism and the surprising effects physics has on everyday events.

“With the constant developments from the Webb telescope and space exploration, we couldn’t be more excited for Neil deGrasse Tyson to take our stages and translate what it all means. Not just scientifically, but also its impact on our political, cultural and economic future,” said Kathy Winterhalder, Distinguished Speaker Series co-founder.

The science popularizer and translator has achieved science-superstar status through his ever-expanding body of work in television, podcasting, journalism, social media and books, and as director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Tyson is the second of six lecturers in this round of the Distinguished Speaker Series.

Upcoming speakers in 2023 are Adm. James Stavridis (Jan. 24), Cristina Mittermeier (Feb. 7), Bob Eubanks (March 15) and Ken Burns (May 2).

The series is open to the public in subscription packages only; tickets are not sold for individual speakers.

The remaining series packages range from $240 to $550 for all five evenings.

Subscriptions can be purchased at speakersla.com or by calling (805) 449-2787 Tuesday through Saturday.
