ATLANTA — New COVID-19 cases are down across Georgia from this time last year, but we are seeing a number of elderly people who need a hospital stay.

Channel 2′s Jorge Estevez  spoke with Dr. Jayne Morgan, the executive director of the COVID task force for Piedmont Healthcare.

Estevez asked Morgan why we’re seeing the number of elderly cases increasing.

TRENDING STORIES:

“You know, we’re absolutely seeing these cases start to increase, that scalloping in our graph, and probably it’s because of two reasons. One, the elderly generally have more medical conditions that can increase their risk of severe disease. And the fact of the matter is, 30% of the elderly never even received their first booster, let alone that second booster. So, they completed the primary series and they never move forward with the boosters; and we know the boosters are absolutely necessary to continue to protect you,” Morgan said.
