? Council Discusses 911 Dispatch Centers + Kutz Pleads Not Guilty

Hey, friends. It’s Wednesday in Lakewood and I’m back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what’s happening in our community today. Here we go…

First, today’s weather:

A t-storm around in the p.m.. High: 70 Low: 58.

Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:

  1. Lakewood leaders discussed the future of its 911 dispatch center operations at its City Council meeting on Monday. An Ohio law, which went into effect in 2013 and has been updated over the years, requires counties to only have three 911 dispatch centers or have state funding cut in half. Presently Lakewood Mayor Meghan George works in the same building as her team of nearly a dozen dispatchers. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
  2. 36-year-old Franklin Kutz of Westlake pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Lakewood Municipal Court Tuesday afternoon. Kutz is accused of driving drunk and hitting a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Josephine Sever. Sever died from her injuries at MetroHealth Medical Center. (Cleveland 19)
  3. The Cleveland City Council passed a resolution 16-1 urging FirstEnergy to remove its name from the Cleveland Browns’ stadium. The resolution came in response to the role FirstEnergy played in a $60 million bribery scheme under investigation by the federal government. FirstEnergy said in a statement that it’s disappointed that the resolution overlooked the community benefits created by its partnership with the Browns. (ideastream)
