Haridwar: Addressing a meeting of the consultative committee of ministry of power at Tehri Hydro Power Project on Thursday, cabinet minister for power and new and renewable energy RK Singh said that the development of any nation depends on the availability of energy. The need for enhancing hydro capacity is an important part of India’s energy policy, he added.
He further said, “Peak power demand has increased about 15% and to meet the demand hydropower and renewable energy could play an important role for the country. Large dams also help to protect local regions from flash floods,” he said. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “Uttarakhand has a big potential in hydro power projects. Currently, 21 large and medium hydro power projects are in the state in which some are under construction.” TNN
