?โ€โ™‚๏ธ Thin Blue Line Flag Fault + Public Servant Lost + Deshaun TV

Hello, it’s Tuesday. The Thin Blue Line banner spotted on I-90 at the site where a police officer was killed in the line of duty five years ago isn’t flying straight with ODOT. Tonight, HBO will air the first TV interview with Deshaun Watson accusers. And the city of Cleveland lost a dedicated public servant โ€” some might say an angel โ€” on Monday.

1) Thin Blue Line Flag Cannot Wave At Police Officer’s I-90 Memorial

Someone has objected to a Thin Blue Line flag affixed to the sign that honors the memory of Cleveland police officer David Fahey โ€” who was killed at the age of 39 by a hit-and-run driver on I-90 as he directed traffic near a crash site. The Ohio Department of Transportation will ask Fahey’s family to remove the flag.

  • A few months ago, the family put up a wooden sign at the memorial marker. The state asked the family to take that sign down.
  • An ODOT spokesman said it’s not known who put up the flag but the state intends to reach out to the family.
  • Background: The driver who killed Fahey was eventually tracked down, put on trial and sentenced to 12 years in prison and a lifetime driving ban.

2) Bill Denihan โ€” who spent more than four decades in public service for Cuyahoga County โ€” died Monday. He was 85. As a mental health and addiction advocate “he loved making a meaningful difference in peoples’ lives,” his wife Mary wrote on her Facebook page. He suffered a heart attack on May 12.

  • Denihan was once public safety director and acting police chief in Cleveland. He ran the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles as director of Highway Safety.
  • He was executive director of the county’s Department of Children and Family Services, too. Twenty years ago, the bishop of the Cleveland Diocese asked Denihan to lead the investigation of child sex-abuse cases.
  • Denihan chaired the Mental Health Response Advisory Committee, too, formed after Cleveland and the Justice Department reached an agreement about police use-of-force policies and practices.
  • His last job was CEO of the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board, which he helped create in 2009. He worked there for 15 years.

“I cannot imagine my life without this creative, dynamic and thoroughly original man. There was only one Bill Denihan and I am privileged that he loved me as much as I loved him,” Mary wrote on Facebook.

3) Two of Deshaun Watson’s accusers will be interviewed by Soledad O’Brien in their first national TV interview on HBO’s Real Sports. The women will explain the alleged sexual misconduct. They also will react to Watson’s mammoth, record-breaking $230 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.

  • “HBO approached us and asked if our clients would be willing to speak on the record for the Real Sports program,” the women’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, said in a media statement. “As was the case with speaking with law enforcement and the NFL, we left the decision whether to speak publicly up to the clients themselves. Two chose to do so. These women are the most brave and courageous I’ve ever met.”
  • Watson declined to participate in the program.

4) A 31- year-old woman who fell at Whipp’s Ledges was airlifted to University Hospitals Monday night. The accident at the Cleveland Metroparks hiking area in Hinckley happened around 7 p.m.
