Gears of War remastered collection rumoured to launch this year

A rumoured Gears of War remastered collection that’s said to be similar in scope to Halo: The Master Chief Collection could launch this year, according to an insider.

Back in January, XboxEra’s Nick Baker mentioned he’d heard that a Microsoft franchise was getting the “Master Chief Collection treatment“. At the time, Baker didn’t mention what the franchise was, but other journalists speculated it could be Gears of War.

Rumoured Gears of War remastered collection could launch in 2022

Now, on the latest episode of The XboxEra Podcast, Baker says that this remastered collection could launch this year. “There was a rumour mill a while back where I mentioned that there is another Microsoft franchise that’s getting the Master Chief Collection type treatment. I am of the belief that is coming this year. Maybe that’ll be an E3 announcement… the collection from a Microsoft franchise.

“Everyone’s guessed it. I’m not going to say it, but everyone’s guessed it. What makes me laugh though, is that if you go from November 2021 to November 2022 and you look at Microsoft’s big output, it could wind up being Halo, Gears, Forza.”

If Microsoft does have a remastered Gears of War collection up its sleeve, it would make sense to announce it during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase and release it this year, especially now considering both Starfield and Redfall have been delayed to 2023. The first-party lineup from Xbox Game Studios is pretty barren for the rest of the year, and Microsoft will need something to keep Xbox fans satiated.

It’s of course worth taking this information with a pinch of salt until Microsft makes an official announcement.
