Crimzen Christmas gearing up for run at Miss Ohio
Meet: Newcomerstown’s Crimzen Christmas
Education: Newcomerstown High graduate 2021; Buckeye Career Center graduate 2021, Graphic Arts Program; Currently attending the University of Akron to obtain a bachelor’s degree in speech-language, pathology and audiology with plans to become a doctor of audiology.
Queen: Crimzen is the current Miss Cuyahoga Valley 2022, and will be competing for the title of Miss Ohio on June 16-18, in Mansfield.
Crimzen, please tell us a little bit about you and your family.
“I was born in Coshocton County the daughter of Corey and Debbie Christmas. My family and I moved to Newcomerstown in Tuscarawas County during my 4th grade year. I didn’t know it at the time, but Newcomerstown was exactly what I needed to excel not only in life, but academically as well. The close-knit community supported me and encouraged me in all that I attempted. As someone with a hearing impairment, school can be a challenge, but Newcomerstown met me where I was at and provided all tools that I needed to be successful in the classroom. In addition, as a part of the Newcomerstown School District; I went on to earn an academic scholar letter, a scholarship from the Newcomerstown Scholarship Foundation, and one from the Buckeye Scholarship Foundation as well.
“I graduated in 2021 from Newcomerstown High School and Buckeye Career Center’s Graphic Arts program. My time at Buckeye Career Center allowed me to become more confident in myself and helped me to recognize what I had to offer others. Although I enjoyed the Graphic Arts program, I was developing the need to assist others like myself with hearing impairments or deafness. This is when I decided to change my career path. I am currently finishing my last week of my freshman year at the University of Akron where I’m obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language, Pathology, and Audiology with plans to become a Doctor of Audiology.
“I credit my parents as well for my success as they were not OK with, ‘I can’t.’ I often heard, ‘yes you can, but you may have to find a different way, your way.’ My parents didn’t permit me to turn down an opportunity out of fear of failure. They encouraged me to do my best at everything I attempted. This has helped me become the person I am today and the reason for my Miss Ohio Social Impact Initiative, Life Goes on with a Disability. I want to be the voice for other individuals with disabilities, encouraging them to not let fears of failure prevent them from setting goals and achieving them, their way.
“In my spare time I enjoy dancing, being active with the American Sign Language Association at the University of Akron, volunteering with local County Boards of Developmental Disabilities and attending car meets.”
Please tell us about how your involvement in pageants came about?
“I have been competing in pageants off and on since I was 1 year old, winning the title of cutest baby on my 1st birthday. I held multiple titles with our local Cy Young Days Festival to include Princess Attendant, Junior Queen twice, and was honored to be the 2018-2019 Cy Young Days Festival Queen. My interest in the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program began during one of my many adventures on the Cy Young Days Court. I remember participating in the Miss Ohio Parade and meeting Miss Ohio 2018, Matti-Lynn Chrisman of Cambridge, and the candidates that were preparing to compete that week for the title of Miss Ohio 2019, but never did I dream that this would one day be me competing to be Miss Ohio.”
Please tell us about your current Queen Status, and what pageant you are currently competing for?
“My current title is Miss Cuyahoga Valley 2022, and I will be competing for the title of Miss Ohio June 16-18 in Mansfield. The Miss Ohio Scholarship Program is under the Miss America Program. Miss Ohio candidates are chosen by a panel of judges at Local Programs throughout Ohio.
“My years representing the Cy Young Days Festival around Ohio and dancing at Studio 3 in Newcomerstown have inspired me to build confidence and develop a level of comfort on the stage. The Miss Ohio Scholarship Program is giving me another stage to share my message, Life goes on with a Disability.
“It is an honor and a pleasure to be alongside these 21 outstanding ladies competing for the title of Miss Ohio 2022.
