OHIO WEATHER

? Avon Lake Community Council Awards + Avon Lake Gets $50K From OH

Happy Monday, neighbors! Here’s everything you need to know about what’s happening around town today.

Here are the top three stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:

  1. The Avon Lake Community Council has selected its recipients of the annual Citizen of the Year and Project of the Year honors. Herman “Bucky” R. Kopf has been recognized as the 2022 Avon Lake Citizen of the Year; Music on a Mission Project D.R.E.W. (Delivering Restorative Energy to our Warriors) is the Project of the Year. Both will be honored at a special recognition ceremony, open to the public, on May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Avon Lake Public Library. (cleveland.com)
  2. As part of a $2.1 million H2Ohio grant program, Avon Lake will receive $50,000 from the state of Ohio to identify and map underground lead pipes. The assistance grants will go to 48 public water systems and communities across the state of Ohio. According to Governor Mike DeWine’s office, the mapping brings Ohio “another step closer to ridding the entire state of these toxic pipes” and “is an important component to our commitment to the health and well-being of our communities.” (The Chronicle)
  3. The Eagles, Avon’s boys’ tennis team, will be advancing in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association’s state team tournament. The team won four of its five matches at Avon Oaks Country Club, most recently beating out St. Edward on Friday. “We just want to keep this thing going,” said Avon’s Franco Gallo. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to go to Cincinnati if we win two more matches.” (The Chronicle)
