Roundup: WBL able to get in boys tennis matches


LIMA — The Western Buckeye League was able to get in boys tennis tournament matches at the University of Northwestern Ohio before the rainy weather arrived Thursday.

Shawnee’s Gabe Burke (first singles), Mason Stahl (second singles) and Mac Davis (third singles) reached the championship matches. Burke plays St. Marys’ Joey Vanderhorst, Stahl meets Bath’s Ezra Bolon and Davis takes on Ottawa-Glandorf’s Sam Schomaeker.

In first doubles, Shawnee’s Salah Muhammad and Gabe Rutter will play St. Marys’ Rhett Chisholm and Isaac Wibbeler and Bath’s Austin Miller and Will Miller will meet O-G’s Caleb Kuhlman and Carson Fuka in semifinals.

In second doubles, Shawnee’s Shashank Chanamolu and Seth Greishop reached the finals and will play the winner of O-G’s Ethan Weis and Levi Unterbrink and St. Marys’ Cody Birt and Jaxton Spees.

Play is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. today at Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

MT. BLANCHARD — Kenton’s Trevor Robinson did not give up an earned run and allowed four hits and a walk while striking out three in seven innings.

DELPHOS — Shawnee (114 points) won the team title followed by Delphos St. John’s (39) and Fort Jennings (26).

Boys Track

DELPHOS — Shawnee (126.5) was first in the team standings followed by DSJ (32) and Fort Jennings (13.5). Shawnee’s Carter Cleaves (800 and 1,600) and Shandon Sewell (shot put and discus) each won two individual events.

PCL meet postponed

The Putnam County League meet has been postponed until Monday at Columbus Grove. Field events and the 3,200 meter relays are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. with other running events slated to begin at 6 p.m.

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio advanced in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. Winning pitcher Titus Groeneweg allowed five hits and a walk while striking out eight in seven innings. Luis Yadi Rivera Gotay had two doubles and two RBI and Shakur Jackson had three hits, including a double, and an RBI also for the Racers.

SYLVANIA — UNOH fell 6-5 to Aquinas College after defeating Indiana Tech 3-2.

FINDLAY — Wapakoneta graduate Megan Demler has been named first team all-Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Demler hit .393 with six home runs, 27 runs batted in and 37 runs scored for Findlay during the regular season. She also had a 16-5 record as a pitcher with 2.47 earned run average. Demler also struck out 161 hitters in 130 1/3 innings pitched.

The Oilers defeated Ursuline 4-0 and Ohio Dominican 2-1 to advance in the G-MAC tournament and are scheduled to play host to Trevecca Nazarene at 10 a.m. today.

Against Ursuline, Demler got her 17th win, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out two in seven innings. She also went 1 for 3 at the plate. Against Ohio Dominican, she was 0 for 2.
