2022 Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Teams Announced

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference announced its 2022 women’s lacrosse all-conference teams Wednesday afternoon, following a vote by the conference’s seven head coaches. That same group will also be selecting the Big Ten’s individual award recipients, with that announcement to come next week.

Big Ten Champion Maryland led all conference programs with eight All-Big Ten honorees, including five on the first team. Three of the Terrapins’ eight all-conference student-athletes were unanimous selections — graduate student defender Abby Bosco, graduate student attacker Aurora Cordingley and junior goalkeeper Emily Sterling.

Michigan and Rutgers each had five players receive All-Big Ten accolades. The Wolverines were led by a pair of first-team honorees in sophomore defender Maddie Burns and senior midfielder Kaitlyn Mead. The Scarlet Knights had three first-team selections in junior defender Meghan Ball, graduate student attacker TT Naslonski and junior midfielder Cassidy Spilis, with Ball and Spilis unanimously chosen by the conference coaches.

Johns Hopkins, Northwestern and Ohio State produced four all-conference student-athletes apiece. JHU had a first-team honoree in graduate student defender Jeanne Kachris, while all four NU selections made the All-Big Ten First Team — junior attacker Erin Coykendall, graduate student attacker Lauren Gilbert, graduate student midfielder Jill Girardi and graduate student defender Ally Palermo — with Gilbert and Girardi capturing unanimous recognition.

Rounding out the first-team all-conference honorees was Penn State sophomore midfielder Kristin O’Neill, who was one of two Nittany Lions to earn her way onto this year’s All-Big Ten teams.

The Big Ten also recognized seven Sportsmanship Award recipients in the sport of women’s lacrosse on Wednesday, one from each conference school. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

The complete All-Big Ten teams are listed below.

The 2022 Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament begins Friday at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J., with two semifinal contests, as top-seeded Maryland battles No. 4 seed Johns Hopkins (5:30 p.m. ET) and second-seeded Northwestern faces No. 3 seed Rutgers (8 p.m. ET). The two semifinal winners will then play at noon (ET) Sunday, with the victor earning the Big Ten’s automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Championship.

All three games of this year’s Big Ten Tournament will be televised live to a national audience on the Big Ten Network and the FOX Sports app.
