Ohio Sen. Rob Portman stumps for Jane Timken in Price Hill


With less than 24 hours to go until Primary Day in Ohio, U.S. Republican Senate Candidate Jane Timken spent part of her Monday morning in her hometown of Cincinnati. Timken held a breakfast rally at Price Hill Chili. The former Ohio Republican Chairman was joined by Ohio Senator Rob Portman whose senate seat is up for grabs after he announced his retirement. Portman previously endorsed Timken.”We are one day away from Election Day and I’m excited because we’re going to run through the tape on this election,” Timken told the small crowd as they enjoyed menu items like eggs, coffee and goetta.Timken, a conservative, took time to address the crowd and gave remarks concerning energy independence, inflation, border security, education and law enforcement.Dan Cunningham ate his breakfast while listening to Timken. Of all the GOP candidates running for Portman’s Senate seat, the early voter told WLWT that Timken is his favorite.”I’m leaning toward Jane,” Cunningham said. “Because, and here’s the reason, is because she gets the message about long-term economic growth and how it helps. So that’s what I’m looking for in a candidate.”Timken’s top supporter, incumbent Senator Rob Portman, stood next to Timken to visually and vocally show his endorsement on the day before the primary election.”I am delighted to be here in supporting Jane Timken,” Portman said. He also took time to address the main GOP elephant, not in the room. “Some people said well this race is between people who support Donald Trump and don’t support Donald Trump. No, Jane supports Donald Trump. In fact, she was the one who delivered a landslide victory, by Ohio standards, in the state of Ohio. It was her,” Portman said referencing the 2020 Election.In April, Former President Donald Trump endorses Timken’s opponent J.D. Vance.”Well, I wish that she had got it,” Portman said referencing Timken after WLWT asked him about Trump’s endorsement. “I think she worked hard for him and therefore, you know, deserved to have some support, but he makes his own decisions. And so he chose someone else.” “Do you think it’s going to make a difference,” WLWT Reporter Meredith Stutz asked. “Yeah, I think it will. I think it will,” Portman said. “I think his endorsements are important.”A recent Emerson College poll found Timken to be in fifth place for who Republicans plan to vote for in the primary election.Still, Timken is focused on Primary Day and Election Day in November.”We need someone to win this primary to defeat a Democrat in November and I’m the best candidate to beat Tim Ryan.”Timken plans to host events throughout Ohio on Monday before spending Primary Day back home in Stark County.Primary Day in Ohio is May 3.
