Chris Stapleton brings ‘Starting Over’ to the Schott

Chris Stapleton

Chris Stapleton released his fourth album, Starting Over, in November 2020, and the title has served as a fitting theme for the last couple of years, in which Stapleton’s tour in support of the record has repeatedly been kicked down the road and rebooted due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Now, finally, Stapleton is set to visit Columbus’ Schottenstein Center tonight (Thursday, April 21), alongside openers Madeline Edwards and Margo Price.

The COVID-related delays have done little to dim the fervor around the musician, who earlier this month swept all of the categories in which he was nominated at the Grammy Awards, taking home wins for Best Country Album (Starting Over), Best Country Solo Performance (“You Should Probably Leave”) and Best Country Song (“Cold”).

Stapleton also performed on the telecast, delivering a stunning rendition of “Cold,” which, true to form, bypassed the bells, whistles and forced cameos that sometimes define Grammy appearances, the Kentucky-born crooner opting for a more straightforward run through the piano-laced, heart-aching tune, which you can watch below. (Dig the way those “ohhs” manage to cut to the bone.)
