ODOT 2022 construction plans for northwest Ohio


The 2022 highway construction season is underway with a focus on improving intersection safety. Here’s a summary of ODOT’s projects in the 8 counties of District 2.

Spring may be in full swing, but another season has kicked off in Ohio: construction season.

It’s the time of year when flowers and orange barrels alike bloom across the state. In total, $1.94 billion is invested into the Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2022 construction season

Statewide highlights include 19 major projects, 829 projects and 222 safety projects, along with preserving 7,626 miles of pavement and enhancing 661 bridges.

ODOT District 2 serves Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, Williams and Wood counties. District 2, based in Bowling Green, is responsible for 3,833 lane miles, 950 bridges and 65 projects.

Here’s a list of what ODOT is working on in northwest Ohio for 2022, organized by county:

Fulton County

State Route 120: Resurface SR 120 from Ohio/Michigan state line to east of Lyons.

  • Estimated Start: May 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $2.3 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are expected.

Henry County

U.S. Route 6: Geological slope repair on US 6 at CR 424.

  • Construction Began: March 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $434,000
  • Traffic Impacts: A 50-day closure is required. Traffic will be detoured.

State Route 110: Geological slope repair on SR 110 north of CR P3.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: August 2022
  • Project Cost: $836,000
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are expected.

Lucas County

Interstate 75: Reconstruct I-75 from South Ave. to Dorr St. through downtown Toledo.

  • Construction Began: August 2018
  • Estimated End: Summer 2023
  • Project Cost: $158.7 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Long-term ramp and lane closures and restrictions are required.
  • Note: Adjacent to Wood County I-75 Reconstruction

U.S. Route 20: Bridge replacement on Reynolds Rd./US 20 between Hill Ave. and South Ave.

  • Estimated Start: June 2022
  • Estimated End: August 2022
  • Project Cost: $1.6 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are expected. A 15-day closure is required. Traffic will be detoured.

Interstate 475: Construct a new interchange at US Route 20A in Maumee, and widen I-475 to three lanes in each direction between Airport Hwy. and US 24.

  • Estimated Start: July 2022
  • Estimated End: December 2024
  • Project Cost: $100 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions and closures are expected.

U.S. Route 20: Intersection improvements at US 20/Reynolds Rd. and Heatherdowns Blvd.

  • Estimated Start: May 2022
  • Estimated End: July 2022
  • Project Cost: $1.3 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Nighttime lane restrictions are expected.

Interstates 75, 280, 475: Various concrete/pavement and joint repairs on interstates and ramps.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: July 2022
  • Project Cost: $982,000
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions and ramp closures are necessary

U.S. Route 24: Resurface and intersection improvements on US 24 between Ford St. and Detroit Ave., and install a bike path.

  • Project Awarded: August 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2023
  • Project Cost: $12.4 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are expected.
  • Note: Awards in August; Construction may begin in 2022 or in 2023.

State Route 2: Replace bridge over Cedar Creek west of Bono, north of Ottawa County.

  • Construction Began: March 2022
  • Estimated End: May 2022
  • Project Cost: $1.2 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Full closure required. Traffic is detoured.

SR 184/Alexis Road at Lewis Avenue: Intersection improvements at Alexis Rd. and Lewis Ave. in Toledo.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: June 2022
  • Project Cost: $2.6 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are expected.

State Route 2/Airport Highway: Widen and reconfigure the north leg of the Airport Hwy./McCord Rd. intersection and related signal work.

  • Estimated Start: May 2022
  • Estimated End: August 2022
  • Project Cost: $670,000
  • Traffic Impacts: Nighttime and weekend lane restrictions are expected.

Laskey Road at Lewis Avenue: Intersection improvements at Laskey Rd. and Lewis Ave. in Toledo.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $619,000
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are required.

State Route 184/Alexis Road: Bridge replacement on Alexis Rd. over Shantee/Silver Creek. 

  • Construction Began: March 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $5 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions and local road closures are expected. 

Laskey Road at Talmadge Road: Intersection improvements at Laskey Rd. and Talmadge Rd. in Toledo.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $428,000
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are required.

Perrysburg-Holland Road: Replace bridge deck on Perrysburg-Holland Rd. over I-475.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $1.8 million
  • Traffic Impacts: 90-day closure required. Traffic will be detoured.

Various Locations: Electrical maintenance for three bridges and four water pump stations.

  • Contract Began: January 2022
  • Contract End: December 2022
  • Project Cost: $129,000
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions may be necessary.
  • Note: Includes Ottawa County.

Various Locations: Bridge deck sealings and installing recessed wet reflective pavement markings.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: September 2022
  • Project Cost: $2.1 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are expected.

Various Locations: Operations for the Craig Lift Bridge in Toledo and the Port Clinton Lift Bridge in Ottawa County.

  • Contract Began: January 2022
  • Contract Ends: December 2022
  • Project Cost: $450,000
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions may be necessary.
  • Note: Includes Ottawa County.

Various Locations: Replace flatsheet signs in various locations throughout Lucas County.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $1 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are expected.

Ottawa County

State Route 2: Resurface SR 2 between SR 358 and west of the SR 163 interchange.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: October 2022
  • Project Cost: $5.3 million
  • Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions are required.

State Route 163: Replace the structure at Billman Rd.

  • Estimated Start: April 2022
  • Estimated End: September 2022
  • Project Cost: $560,000
  • Traffic Impacts: 60-day closure on Billman Rd. is necessary. Traffic will be detoured. SR 163 will experience lane restrictions.

State Route 53: Resurface SR 53 from south of SR 163 to Water St.
