Benjamin Logan Board of Education Discusses Diesel Costs for School Buses

The Benjamin Logan Schools Board of Education met last night.

Superintendent John Scheu told members the price of diesel fuel for the bus fleet has increased from $2.71 on January 1 to $3.49 as of March 1. The buses average 6.5 miles per gallon. As a result of this significant increase in fuel costs, all away events, contests, and activities will be limited to 1.5 hours one way to and from the Benjamin Logan campus until further notice.

Scheu added after 17 hours of dealing with a grievance (placement of coaches on supplemental salary schedule and definition of comparable experience) and two pending grievances (what employees are required to secure their pupil activity permit to coach or advise a team or group and the other being the request to pay coaches to transport their team members to and from contests in school vehicles if no bus is available), progress is continuing to resolve these issues.

In a public meeting following an executive session, the board passed a resolution to increase Jennifer Sudhoff’s annual salary by $10,000 for additional business manager duties. It will be for 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24 school years.

The board approved material and repairs projects in all three school cafeterias.

The board approved a donation of $500 from the Bellefontaine Rotary Club to be used by the Benjamin Logan High School Robotics Club.
