Jill Abraham resigns; interim deputy superintendent expected by April 1
Jill Abraham has resigned as Bexley City Schools’ deputy superintendent to return to the district where she began her career.
During its March 9 meeting, the board of education accepted Abraham’s resignation, effective March 31. She will start April 1 as assistant superintendent at Hilliard City Schools.
“I am super excited to join a fabulous team (and) can’t wait to get to work,” Abraham said of her new job.
District spokesman Tyler Trill said an interim deputy superintendent would be in place by April 1.
“The interim deputy superintendent will provide necessary supports associated with this role to our students and staff,” Trill said.
Board President Victoria Powers said Abraham’s decision was “bittersweet.”
“We are excited for Jill in her new opportunity as assistant superintendent of Hilliard City Schools,” she said. “Jill previously spent close to two decades at Hilliard and returning there is a wonderful homecoming for her, though bittersweet for us at Bexley. Jill has brought a student-centered focus to her work at Bexley, and has been a tremendous leader, collaborator and advocate for our students.”
“We are thankful for her tireless efforts and dedication to Bexley and wish her the best,” Trill said of Abraham.
Abraham began her teaching career in 1993 at Norwich Elementary School and remained in the Hilliard district for 17 of the next 18 years. She last served the district as director of elementary education.
Abraham then served as director of elementary education at Dublin City Schools from 2011-19 before joining Bexley in August 2019 as the chief academic officer. In that role, she oversaw curriculum at all grade levels, the district’s diversity and inclusion programs and its Service Model Task Force, which convened in fall 2020 to study learning models amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
In February 2021, the board of education announced that the district had selected Abraham to become superintendent, with a contract that was scheduled to become effective June 1, 2021.
Later that month, Abraham withdrew from consideration for the position and continued in her role as chief academic officer.
Jason Fine then was hired and took over July 1, 2021.
Last fall, Fine announced a reorganization of district positions, and Abraham was named deputy superintendent.
In searching for Abraham’s replacement, “district leadership is working with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio to bring in an interim who can help us complete the current school year,” Powers said. “During that time, district leadership will evaluate needs and determine how to best move forward.”
