OHIO – Brock Loftus is running off to Heartland College.
The Ohio High School senior and three-time BCR Cross Country Runner of the Year from Amboy-LaMoille-Ohio has signed to run both cross country and track for Heartland Community College in Normal.
The Heartland cross country team earned a spot in the NJCAA DII National Meet last fall for the second straight season after winning the Region-24 Meet and gearing up for a return trip.
Loftus said he is excited to join a strong program that can help him fulfill bigger aspirations.
“They are one of the top teams in the country right now for JUCO going for the win at nationals next fall,” he said. “The coach is amazing. He went the JUCO route before going to the University of Illinois where he set records. The guys on the team I got along with very well and felt I fit in great with them and the program.
“I have goals of going somewhere very big after my time at heartland. I really liked the area down there. I feel it will be a very good transition into college.”
Loftus was both a regional and sectional champion and set the 3-mile record for all three schools in the A-L-O co-op. He just missed all-state honors, placing 26th to become the highest placing runner in Amboy history at the state meet.
