Columbus Jewish leaders form kosher steering committee | Local News

Jewish leaders in Columbus have formed a steering committee to find a long-term solution to the community’s need for kosher food after Kroger greatly reduced its offerings in late January.

Adam Eisenberg of Sokol Eisenberg Insurance in Columbus will lead the effort that includes: Rabbi Alex Braver, president, Columbus Board of Rabbis; Joel Marcovitch, the CEO of JewishColumbus and Rabbi Josh Finegold, the administrator of Buckeye Kosher.

Braver, who is also the associate rabbi at Congregation Tifereth Israel in Columbus, sent an email out Feb. 16 announcing the effort. A copy of the email is included below.

In the meantime, Matt’s Bakery, which prepared and sold kosher food at Kroger before the store reduced options is now working out of the kitchen at Congregation Ahavas Sholom in Bexley, preparing kosher food, while taking orders from community members and providing curbside pickup and delivery, owner Matt Cooper told the Columbus Jewish News. Matt’s is currently exploring other retail opportunities, he said.

“We are grateful to Ahavas Sholom for allowing us the opportunity to continue serving the community and we are grateful to the community for their continued support during this time of transition,” Cooper said.
