Ohio Loves Transit Week to celebrate mobility | News

From Feb. 13–20, public transit, including services in Hocking County, will celebrate elected officials, dedicated staff, and most importantly, the community of riders. The fifth annual Ohio Loves Transit Week will include activities with transit customers all week, peaking on Ohio Loves Transit Day, Wednesday, Feb. 16. Activities will include:

Monday, Feb. 14 – public transit free fare day for Athens County

Friday, Feb. 18 – public transit free fare day for Hocking County

GoBus rides booked between Feb. 14–20 will receive 22% off with code GoBusLove.

During the week, riders will also be invited to share why they support public transit and why state and federal leaders should too.

Athens Public Transit (APT), Athens on Demand Transit (AODT), GoBus, and Logan Public Transit (LPT) provide over 229,000 rides each year, helping to create and maintain jobs that are essential in keeping local communities strong, according to a news release from Hocking Athens Perry Community Action (HAPCAP). They connect friends and neighbors to jobs, schools, medical appointments, and more. They are also a vital link for people with disabilities, providing rides to job training programs, medical appointments, and adult day care facilities. They continue to meet the daily mobility needs of Ohio’s growing senior population, connect workers to job sites, and connect students to their institutions.

“We are proud to celebrate transportation in our region during Ohio Loves Transit Week,” Carolyn Conley, Director of Transportation at HAPCAP, said in the release. “Public transit opens doors of opportunities and improves the quality of life for all of us. We are incredibly thankful for our passengers, drivers, and staff, who make it all possible.”

Ohio Loves Transit Week is hosted by HAPCAP’s partner, the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA). OPTA is the primary advocate for public transportation in Ohio. Now over 500 members strong from 65 transit agencies across the state, the association provides leadership, resources, training, support, technical assistance, media outreach, public engagement, and governmental relations services to public and private transit agencies.
