Van Gogh and his Sources

Through Vincent’s Eyes: Van Gogh and his Sources
Nov. 12, 2021-Feb. 6, 2022

Through Vincent’s Eyes features more than 15 paintings, drawings and prints by the iconic Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) in an exhibition that provides unique insight into his creative process. These works will be presented alongside artworks by some of the legendary artists he loved most, such as Degas, Monet and Gauguin. The exhibition also emphasizes Van Gogh’s love of literature, offering an enriched understanding of who he was as a person and an artist, with first-edition novels by Dickens, Hugo, Poe and many other rare books by Van Gogh’s favorite authors.

Through Vincent’s Eyes is organized by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in partnership with Columbus Museum of Art. A shared exhibition, it is presented at each museum with two distinct curatorial perspectives and two accompanying books. (Showing at Santa Barbara Museum of Art from Feb. 27-May 22, 2022)
