Latest snowfall totals for Northeast Ohio: Chardon, Willoughby among hardest hit


CLEVELAND, Ohio — The winter storm isn’t the result of the lake effect, but communities in the heart of the snow belt are leading the way when it comes to total snowfall.

Willoughby in Lake County recorded 8 inches of snow over 12 hours as of 8 p.m., according to spotters with the National Weather Service. Right behind is Chardon in Geauga County, which had 7.5 inches over 12 hours as of 8 p.m. In Ashtabula County, Monroe Center had 8.1 inches by 7 p.m.

In Cuyahoga County, Chagrin Falls, which also is part of the snow belt, had 6.5 inches as of 8:45 p.m. Sagamore Hills led the way in Summit County with 7 inches, and in Lorain County Elyria had 5.6 inches.

Combined with previous snows, Chardon has about 21 inches on the ground, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasts say another 1 to 3 inches could fall overnight.
