Columbus weather updates, cancellations, more for Winter Storm Landon
After two days of rain, freezing rain and sleet, folks finally are seeing some snow.
By Friday morning, the National Weather Service in Wilmington indicated that 3.3 inches of the white stuff had fallen overnight at John Glenn Columbus International Airport, with more snow likely by 1 p.m. — another 1 to 2 inches expected during the day.
In Delaware and Union counties, snow accumulations of up to 10 inches are expected.

Franklin County remained under a Level 2 snow emergency, which means that In addition to blowing and drifting wind, roads are very icy and only necessary travel is recommended. Drivers are urged to ask their employers if they should report to work.
In addition, Greater Columbus remains under a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m. Friday due to the snowy and icy conditions.
Many schools and businesses remain closed.

More flights canceled out of John Glenn Columbus airport
The Columbus Regional Airport Authority, in a notice on its website, warned passengers Friday morning to expect widespread cancellations and delays due to the weather. Shortly before 9 a.m., 14 flights arriving at or departing John Glenn Columbus International Airport had been cancelled.”

Freezing temperatures coming this weekend
When the snow tapers off Friday evening, single-digit temperatures will move in, said National Weather Service meteorologist Julie Reed. Friday’s low will drop down to 4 degrees, while Saturday will only see a high of 22 degrees.
“But the wind chill can be as low as -3,” Reed said.
Saturday’s low will bring another cold night to the area at 6 degrees. Sunday, however, will be a warmer day, getting up to 34 degrees.
Ohio State resumes in-person classes
After closing on Thursday, school is back in session for students at Ohio State University. The Columbus campus will resume in-person classes Friday, stated the university in an alert on its website. Online classes will also occur as scheduled.
Area colleges that remain closed Friday include Columbus State Community College, Ohio Dominican University, Capital University, Columbus College of Art and Design and Ohio Wesleyan University.
COTA fares still suspended
After suspending fares on Thursday due to the Level 2 snow emergency in Franklin County, the Central Ohio Transit Authority on Friday announced that it would continue the practice for a second day.
The idea, officials said in a statement, is to “encourage those who must travel to take public transit instead of their personal vehicles; this will reduce traffic accidents in difficult driving conditions and assist the efforts of countywide snow removal and salting.”
COTA is also warning customers to expect significant delays on Friday and throughout the weekend.
