Bay Village celebrates two events Feb. 26: Women’s Club Antiques & Vintage Show and St.

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — Two favorite events are coming back to the community this year on the same day, Feb. 26 — the Bay Village Women’s Club 52nd Antiques & Vintage Show and the Mardi Gras event at St. Raphael School.

The Women’s Club show will also run a second day, Feb. 27.

COVID-19 led to the cancellation of both events last year, but each looks to be even bigger and better this year.

Women’s Club Antiques & Vintage Show

The antiques and vintage show will take place at Bay High School from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 26 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 27 in the cafeteria and hallways. The place will no doubt be packed again with antiques, all types of memorabilia and vintage items sparkling clean and arranged ever so carefully.

All the tables are neat and organized, allowing shoppers to be able to see at a glance all that is available.

Nancy Trainer, president of the Women’s Club, said: “It is truly a walk back in history. Shoppers will see vintage jewelry, shabby chic, furniture, home décor and toys, as well as items for your home, rec room and garden — and more.”

She also noted that there will be free jewelry appraisals from Vivid Diamonds & Design from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 26 and antique valuations from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 27.

The event is a long-running fundraiser for student scholarships in Bay Village. The $5 admittance goes straight to the scholarship fund, which began in 1936 with a $50 scholarship. Today, the scholarships are $2,500 each.

“To date, we have issued 379 scholarships exceeding $500,000 for Bay Village students,” Trainer said.

Trainer also noted that shoppers can enjoy snacks from concession stands at the show. Note: Face masks are required for the event.

Bay High School is located at 29230 Wolf Road.

St. Raphael School’s Mardi Gras

Also a comeback event that has been delighting area residents for many years, St. Raphael School’s Mardi Gras is the parish’s oldest and largest fundraiser for the school, according to Jessica Pecora, a spokesperson for the event.

“The Mardi Gras is open to the whole community, not just residents or members of the church,” she said. “The last event was in 2020 and was held inside the school in a toned-down version, but still about 500 people attended.”

The event, due to the cold, is being held in the Parish Activity Center (look for directional signs) and features games, a balloon artist, food and some rather amazing raffle prizes. The $2 raffle ticket prize baskets include: American Girl 2022 Doll of the Year, Oculus, LEGO Grand Piano, iPad, AirPods Pro, Yeti package, $300 Amazon gift card, $300 Visa gift card, $300 Best Buy gift card and more.

There are also “experience” days with teachers, at $5 per raffle ticket. These include Father Tim’s House Blessing, Principal for the Day, a run to Malley’s with Father Jim, front-row seats to many St. Raphael events, special experiences with favorite teachers, PS5 — the latest video game, a reserved parking spot and more.

Raffle drawings will begin at 2 p.m. You need not be present to win. The church is located at 525 Dover Center Road.
